Launching into full-time entrepreneurship as a coach during the pandemic is one of my most challenging things. I was ready to leap but blissfully ignorant of the challenges ahead. Nearly four years into this journey, I feel proud of my growth and am optimistic about what lies ahead. That optimism is rooted in a magical mix of owning my transformative power as a coach and the powerful technology available to support me. Enter, ChatGPT.
Challenges of Solo-Preneurship
Figuring out the right amount of time to spend on each aspect of my business can be exhausting. From client prospecting to marketing and strategy planning, it all must be done to build a sustainable venture. I’m lucky to have cultivated a small team of colleagues who also run businesses and whom I can count on for support. I also rely on ChatGPT as an indispensable assistant to supplement this team. To ignore it would be at my peril.
Your Virtual Business Partner
For those unfamiliar, ChatGPT is an on-demand brainstorming partner. It helps you generate ideas, refine content, and tackle tasks you’ve avoided. “The generative AI tool can answer questions and assist you with composing text, code, and much more.1”
Allow me to share some practical uses:
- Find on-brand articles and podcasts to share on your social media and prompt ChatGPT to write a caption in your voice.
- Get feedback on a proposal from the perspective of a prospective client.
- Draft a job description, mid-year check-in, and end-of-year performance review for yourself as a solo CEO.
- Have ChatGPT draft that potentially awkward email you’ve procrastinated on sending.
- Powerfully revise your coach bio, unique selling proposition, or LinkedIn headline.
Remember that the results are only as good as the request you enter. This is where prompt engineering comes in. Your request for ChatGPT must be strategically worded for the best results.
Here are a few tips:
- For complex requests, the system might need a lot of information from you. To make it easier, tell ChatGPT to ask you only one question at a time until the answer arrives.
o An example is, “Help me create a unique selling proposition statement.” Ask no more than one question at a time.
- Give the system a persona that you’d like to emulate. You can either give it one or tell it your own.
o For this article link, create an engaging LinkedIn post of no more than 1000 characters in the energy of Oprah. Easy on the emojis and include a call to action.
- When you get a wrong response from ChatGPT, tell the system it’s bad, then ask for a correction. Especially when it comes to sharing on social media, don’t accept anything that’s factually incorrect or doesn’t align with your values and unique brand.
o Revise that post. Make sure it speaks powerfully to my ideal client, not to everyone. That looks incorrect, are you sure that's what you meant?
Stop Waiting, You’re Ready.
Credential coaches cannot be replaced by any AI tool in the industry. We have the gift of holding space with clients in a way that tech can’t duplicate. It’s up to us to use it ethically to serve ourselves and our clients.
Supplementing your skills with AI can be a total game-changer for your practice. If you’re new to the tools, don’t wait; start experimenting to build competence and comfort. The more you use it, the more confident you’ll be and the better it’ll learn to support you. Remember, you should tell clients the best transformations happen on the other side of your comfort zone.
